Beet and apple garnish

Ingredients

red beet 400-500 grams
sour apple 1 large green
meat broth (chicken) 1 glass
lard fat 50 grams
Red wine 2 glasses / 50-60 ml. (semi-dry table)
salt, sugar taste

Cooking method

  • Cut the bacon into thin strips.
  • Cut the beets into thin strips, for which I used a Berner grater.
  • Beet and apple garnish
  • Preheat a deep saucepan (frying pan), put bacon, simmer a little until the fat dissolves.
  • Add the beets, chicken broth, stir, cover and simmer until the beets are ready, evaporate the liquid and stir occasionally.
  • Chop the apple into thin strips on a grater, add to the beets.
  • Add red wine, salt, sugar, stir and simmer until the apple is cooked and the wine evaporates. Stir periodically so that all components are mixed and soaked in goodies. If the apple is sweet, you can add a little lemon juice.
  • The side dish is ready!

Note

Such a side dish goes very well both with meat and simply with boiled potatoes - I tried both options.

I liked the garnish very much, it tastes sweet and sour, with a pleasant aftertaste of the components of dry red wine!

It's a pity that I saw it so late: I cooked the beets in the most usual way. I bookmarked the recipe, it should have a very interesting taste

As for me, the taste is excellent, sweet and sour! And the taste and smell of raw and boiled beets, which I do not like, is completely absent. The taste can be adjusted in your own way by adding lemon juice, apple or sugar.

Today I cooked beetroot with apples. Delicious. The only thing I did not add lard and broth, but added cloves, cinnamon and ground ginger. Cooking time for the post is it.
