Cooking method

No, I was not mistaken in the section.

It just became very interesting for me here if this is possible in principle. The answer is - it is possible. It turns out very well, the main thing is to guess the time correctly (it depends on the model, power, bread and cheese). Of course, it will be easier in a micro or small oven, but I don't have them. I get it for about 4 minutes. We must cut it down as soon as the cheese melts.
The recipe ... well, I have - the remnants of my rye-wheat bread, ham and cheese - and so who loves what.
Foreshadowing the main question - no, the bread does not soak (I am surprised myself) even if you put it on the wire rack. If you do not overexpose, then it turns out to be absolutely fresh, fresh and soft, and on top is your favorite warm filling. By the way, so you can, half a pity "revive" the old bread.

The total cooking time is approximately 4 minutes.

For the first time, I would have stood by and looked. Maybe two will be enough for you, or maybe five will be needed. The first time you need to catch the moment of melting the cheese, and then turn it on for your time. I bet on 4.

Doesn't the bread get wet?

I also make sandwiches in the oven. On slices of bread greased with ketchup (you can limit yourself to mayonnaise), put ham (or any sausage). Mayonnaise. Then tomato slices. You can have greens, and then cheese. And in the oven for 5-10 minutes, until the cheese is melted.

In the oven, everyone makes millions of variations, but here the topic is about a double boiler. This is news for us! Thank you!
