Apple-orange jam

Ingredients

Apples (ideally Antonovka), peeled 1 kg
Oranges 400g
Sugar from 800 g to 1 kg
Water 500gr

Cooking method

  • It was originally a family recipe for apple jam. The idea to add an orange came after I tried orange jam in Cyprus. And I thought, why not add it (orange) to our signature recipe. In general, I like orange as an additive, especially in chocolate.
  • So let's get started.
  • Remove the zest from the orange. I shoot with a potato peeler. Cut into small strips.
  • Apple-orange jam
  • Then we remove the white layer from the orange and ruthlessly throw it away (it gives the main bitterness). Cut the orange into pieces. The larger the slice in size, the tastier then in jam.
  • Apple-orange jam
  • We clean apples from the middle and skin and three on a coarse grater.
  • In a basin, I have a copper one, we pour water. Moreover, according to the recipe, you need 1 liter. But the apples are so juicy that I reduce the amount of water.
  • We put on fire. Then put the zest, apples and boil for 10-15 minutes.
  • Add sugar. Prescription sugar 1 kg per 1 kg of grated apples. But now we are all trying to put less of it, so I put 800 grams, or even 700 grams. But I have Antonovka, and it jellies well, so the jam can be stored well with so much sugar.
  • Cook for 30-40 minutes.
  • We put our chopped oranges and then cook until the liquid boils away. As the gurgles begin, all the jam is ready.
  • We put it in sterile jars and seal it tightly. The jam is kept in my cellar. But it can also be stored indoors.
  • The jam turns out to be very tasty with a pleasant, non-intrusive bitterness.

Next year we will not have Antonovka, which means this year we need to cook according to the maximum. Too bad oranges are expensive now.

Farida, cooked? Liked? And I cooked a batch over the weekend. I added ginger powder to the jam.
