Cooking method

  • Horchata is a typical Spanish drink. According to the Spanish Royal Academy, "horchata" - horchata, orchad is a drink made from ground almonds or other nuts, crushed and pressed, mixed with water and sugar. The first documented mention of horchata from earthen almonds is in the 18th century, when the word horchata appears for the first time in a document from 1732. However, a similar drink was used in Ancient Egypt, but made from barley. There are several legends regarding the name of the drink. One story tells that a peasant woman gave the king some horchata. The king, fascinated by the drink, wanted to know what it was made of. She answered him that it was "milk of earthen almonds", to which the king replied ¡"Esto no es leche, es oro, chata!" (This is not milk, this is gold, punt!). The first recipe for horchata drink dates back to the end of the 18th century, more specifically in 1786 in the book "Alcaldes de casas y Cortes". Sugar was one of the main ingredients in the Spanish horchata recipe. Of course, such a delicious recipe could not be unique to one country, and there are many variations in the world. In Italy and Malta, a so-called orzata drink is prepared, which is flavored with the essence of bitter almonds. The French version for its part is called orgeat. In Mexico, horchata is cooked with rice, while in Cuba and Puerto Rico sesame seeds are used. Horchata is commonly consumed during the long and hot summer as a refreshing drink. Let's prepare a Mexican version of Horchata.
  • HorchataPour the washed rice with water for 30 minutes.
HorchataPut the rice with water into a blender and grind, about 1 minute. But too small is not necessary. Let the rice and water stand at room temperature for at least 3 hours.
Horchata1. Strain the rice water from the rice. Add milk, vanilla, cinnamon and sugar. Cool and stir before serving, as the cinnamon settles to the bottom. Serve with ice.
  • A very simple, unusual and refreshing drink.
  • Bon appetit, everyone.

Ol, of course, it would be interesting to cook it from earthen almonds, but I could not find it anywhere with us. I had to use the available option.

I read about this chufu. Imagine, I even hear for the first time.
I mean the usual almonds (wood).

I even hear for the first time
I also read about it for the first time when I found the recipe.

Probably the recipe meant vanilla sugar, not vanillin! If you add 1/2 tbsp per liter of liquid. l. vanillin, it will be impossible to take in your mouth! (And this will be about 5-6 standard sachets of 1.5g.)

Galina, I really took vanilla sugar. Thank you. I'll fix it now.
