Cooking method

  • The ingredients for the salad remain unchanged - potatoes, beets, carrots, onions, eggs and, of course, the herring itself. We use mayonnaise as a salad dressing.
  • The proportions of vegetables are beets, carrots, potatoes - 2: 1: 2. That is, for 2 potatoes and 2 beets - 1 carrot. Accordingly, any other amount will be in these proportions. Boil all vegetables and grate them.
  • Not everyone likes to add onions to this salad, you can do without it or choose a sweetish variety. Add it a little - half a small onion or 1 small onion.
  • An egg is also added to the salad if desired, 2 boiled eggs for the above amount of vegetables. Also grind on a grater.
  • Cut the herring into pieces.
  • Preparation:
  • Cut an ordinary plastic bag, making a "bedding" out of it (you can also use cling film, but it is not so convenient when transferring salad to a dish, since it sticks to everything).
  • * To prevent the bag under the salad from fidgeting, slightly moisten the surface under it.
  • The layers are stacked in reverse order.

  • * for the convenience of rolling the roll, it is better to make each subsequent layer narrower than the previous one, then you will get not a roll with an overlap, but a "pipe", that is, the layers will close evenly, although this is not so important.
  • After laying all the layers, lift the edges of the film from the long edges and fold it into a tube.
  • Next, we transfer the salad directly with the film onto the dish and roll it seam downward, while pulling the film.

* I recommend taking into account that this salad is eaten quickly and with great appetite, so for a festive feast, you can cook two or three herring rolls under a fur coat. He will perfectly wait for his time before serving in the refrigerator, while not losing its appetizing appearance and taste.

* It is convenient to cut such a salad in portions.
