Cooking method

  • Gugelhupf - or the German "rum woman". Once upon a time, it was considered a dessert for the poor, as it contains the simplest ingredients - eggs, butter, flour ... which are found in every home in a prince. In Styria, for example, a gugelhupf, baked into a crown and decorated with flowers and colorful candles, was used as a headdress. Young girls - bridesmaids - wore it as a decoration. They danced until the last candle burned out, after which the cake was treated to the guests. In the 18th century, during the Biedermeier period, this cupcake became even more popular and became a symbol of position and status. There are many types of Gugelhupf - with yeast and biscuit dough, raisins, chocolate, lemon, almonds, poppy seeds. The classic version is with raisins, which are soaked all night in rum. Also rum is added to the dough of the cake itself.
  • And so let's get started:
  • Separate the whites from the yolks.
  • Beat the whites until firm peaks with 50 grams of sugar.

  • Beat soft butter with 100 grams of sugar until white.

  • Without turning off the mixer, add one yolk one by one.
  • Mix dry ingredients in a separate bowl.
  • As the butter and yolks are whipped, add flour and milk one by one, and so on until they run out.
  • Add rum, mix. And gently mix the whipped proteins into the dough.

  • This muffin can be baked in two ways.
  • Divide the dough into two and add cocoa into one. And you can make one color, like mine.
  • Preheat the oven to 170 gr. grease the form with margarine.

  • We bake for 50 minutes.
  • While the cake is baking, prepare the icing.
  • When the cake is baked, pour over the chocolate icing. We are waiting for everything to freeze and serve it to the table!
