Ingredients

peas 500 grams
beet 1.2 pieces
carrot 1.2 pieces
bulb onions 2,3 pieces
celery root small piece
garlic 3.4 cloves

Cooking method

  • We wash the peas with cool water until the water drained from the peas becomes almost completely transparent. Then put the peas in a slow cooker bowl, pour boiling water over them and set them on the strong mode for 3-4 hours. We fry - fry carrots and onions in a pan, put them in our saucepan, in the same place - grated or chopped raw beets and celery root, add salt and seasonings. Then we cook on LOW for another 2 hours, add garlic towards the end of cooking. All. It turns out a very unusual, red in color and very tasty soup. How big is your slow cooker? I have 4.5 liters, but more than 2.5 liters of water did not fit (then there will be more than 2/3 of the volume, which is prohibited by the instructions)
And what should be the consistency of the soup, like mashed potatoes, or do the peas retain their shape? It seems to me that such a soup is just a godsend during fasting, so I want to cook it right right away.

Here is such a handsome man I got.
I cooked peas in 5 hours on HI, then I added beets, frying, celery ..... and cooked for another 1 hour on HI, then I just let it brew.
The beets have partially lost their color.
Maybe you switch to LOU so that the color of the beets is not lost?
I liked the soup.

brendabaker, Oksana, I have 2 slow cookers. Large - Kenwood CP 658 6.5 liters and small Russell Hobbs 19790-56 Cook at Home 3.5 liters. I cook pea soups only in Kenwood CP 658. I tried it when I was small, but it didn't work out. Peas are not boiled as well as I like. Probably it took longer to cook.
And so that the beets do not lose color during cooking, they should not be put into the soup immediately, but about an hour after the start of cooking.
Or put some beets in a small saucepan, add a little water and bring to a boil. Turn off the heat and add a little vinegar to the saucepan with beets. Add all this beauty to the slow cooker towards the end of cooking. Then the color of the soup will be brighter.
