ELECTRIC DRYERS FOR VEGETABLES, BERRIES, HERBS, GREENS AND FRUITSWhat are DRIED FRUITS?
Dried fruits are obtained when moisture evaporates from fresh fruits, and as a result, all the nutrients and valuable substances contained in them are concentrated.

If we cut an apple into slices and put them in the sun, then after a while the slices will dry out. These dried apple pieces can be called dried fruits. You can dry various fruits and berries in this way (apples, plums, apricots, melons, pineapples, etc.)

The moisture content in fruits remains only 20-25%.

This is a homemade drying method.

Why dry VEGETABLES, FRUITS?
All nutritionists, without exception, say that freezing is in the first place in terms of the preservation of nutrients in the gifts of nature, and drying is in second.

It is known that of all types of processing of vegetables and fruits for storage, drying is the most ancient method.

Some skeptics may object - and why would I need extra costs and troubles.
Vegetables can be prepared in another way, for example, salted, canned, boiled jam from berries, put something in the freezer and freeze!
Yes, some of the fruits can be salted or pickled, but some are best dried - for example, berries, mushrooms and some vegetables such as carrots, beets, celery, garlic.

Dried vegetables, fruits, herbs are, first of all, a valuable and healthy product with a high content of vitamins and mineral salts, which are retained in full when dried! Dried fruits are very useful because of the rich content of vitamins and minerals.

You can make home-made seasonings from dried vegetables and herbs, and you will have a fragrant and healthy addition to soups, borscht or sauces on your table all year round.

And you can pamper yourself at any time of the year, especially in the hunting and fishing season, with jerky and fish!

Therefore, by purchasing an electric dryer, you, first of all, take care of maintaining your health, which is impossible without proper and balanced nutrition. In the winter season, the body lacks vitamin, and dried vegetables and fruits will make up for their deficiency.
What is an ELECTRIC DRYER?
Electric dryers for vegetables and fruits are a small device with a built-in fan and thermostat. However, the fan may not be present, and this will only affect the drying time of the food.

Electric dryers are a very useful and popular invention that helps preserve the beneficial properties of mushrooms, berries, and herbs. Especially here in Russia, where homemade preparations for the winter have always been relevant at all times.
Just cut the food and place it on pallets in an even layer, and in a few hours you will have prunes of your own production or mushrooms that will lie all winter without fear of being spoiled.

Fruits and vegetables contain a large amount of water, so they quickly deteriorate during storage. Drying occurs due to the evaporation of the water contained in the fruit. In order for this process to proceed intensively, it is necessary to ensure a constant supply of dry air, and in dryers - heated air, and the removal of air already saturated with moisture. After drying, fruits and vegetables decrease in weight, since a significant amount of moisture is removed from them, without which microorganisms cannot develop.

1. The simplest version of an electric dryer is a plastic sheet 3-5 mm thick, inside which heating elements are laid. The pallet is 20x60 cm in size and uses very little electricity. You put, for example, sliced apples or pears on it, plug it in, and drying begins. Just remember to turn the future dried fruit.

Option 2. A universal helper, if you have to harvest a large amount of the gifts of nature, buy a universal electric dryer. It is a round or rectangular plastic structure 30-60 cm high and has from 3 to 7 pallets. The weight of the device is 3-5 kg, so it can be easily transported by car from home to summer cottage and back.

Option 3. There is another type of electric dryers - which draw moisture out of the fruit using infrared radiation. However, infrared devices are similar in size to a stove and have a large weight - 8-15 kg.

The gifts of the forest and garden are best dried at a temperature of 30 to 70 degrees with a light breath. Therefore, it is better to choose an electric dryer with a fan and a thermostat that allows you to regulate the temperature.
Products are laid out on removable trays. There can be 3 or 5 of them, depending on the model of the electric dryer.

I counted about very much. Let it dry for 10 hours. This is 2 - 2.5 kW. (working power indicated - 200-250 watts per hour)
At Moscow prices from 1p66kop to 2p.50kop. for 1 kW - we get the amount of 3.32 rubles. up to 5 rubles. Not too much. And the value of the product? Especially taken from his garden? Who saw dried Italian tomatoes in supermarkets - such prices ...

I do not have my own land, but my mother-in-law does. I'm thinking of giving her such a thing by March 8th. There are not very expensive VES models (Spain) up to 2000 rubles. you can meet.

Herbs for tea - mint, lemon balm, strawberries - will be a fabulous tea. Especially in winter. And your muesli? Nowadays, a lot of all sorts of dried soup sets are sold. Like Italian - celery + parsley + dill. And to dry the bay leaf myself - a couple of years ago I bought a bay "broom" on the market and dried it just on the newspaper. Still light fragrant leaves.

In general, I write and saliva ... And, I also tried to add dried carrots to the bread - it turns out both beautifully and, I hope, useful.

Hairpin, Dachnik-KS is an ordinary wind blower dryer, not infrared. IMHO, quite noisy (as far as I heard, when they turned on all of them, the quietest of the wind turbines presented in the store was the Veterok dryer, and all the famous ones were presented, except for Isidri. I don't know about Alaska, but think before you buy if this company has a warranty service in the city, because, for example, we do not have it, and can you, if anything, exchange it in the Metro (this store works with legal entities and therefore the law on consumer rights does not apply to it: claims with legal entities are clarified according to The Civil Code of the Russian Federation, that is, simply speaking, it is easy to exchange defective goods within the usual 14 days, and if the company does not also have a warranty service, then it will have to be repaired in "sharash-installation" for money).
And how much is Alaska, it's me for the sake of curiosity ...?
mish
Hairpin, I'm not a summer resident at all - I don't have a summer residence, it's only in my dreams. But there is still a harvesting season. And my family already felt that it was not for nothing that we transported all these vegetables from the vegetable warehouse, purchasing them in bags at a cheap summer price. Now making a stew or something else vegetable - no problem (at the old prices, of course, and not from greenhouse vegetables). By the way, cabbage was salted here and I suddenly discover that there are no raw carrots ... in general, dried carrots went into business (they were put in cabbage, without soaking). For three days we waited for the end of the experiment, then we tried it - lo and behold !!! the carrots were well soaked and salted, and the taste and color were as if I were putting it fresh when loading! Now we will salt cabbage with dried carrots, and not try to pick a fresh purchase under the pickle (minus an extra trip to the store, so to speak).
So you don't know how much you need a dryer until you try it. But before buying a dryer, I did not dry anything at all !!! Buy and do not wait for the season, they will take them apart during the season and do not buy what you want.
Dusya Myshkina
I bought it in Ikea, but there are similar protozoa in the Metro and in the markets.
It is also convenient for a multicooker to turn off unnecessary heating and to secure the heaters.
I also saw the type of tees on the market - for two plugs, that is, for two electrical appliances.

Basja
The hairpin, of course, will first have to be slipped, but otherwise. After all, it all depends on the amount you want to dry, on the size of this product, on the moisture content of it, etc., etc. If you cut strawberries into chips, it will take less time to dry than if you dry them whole. So by trial and error.
Admin
Finished dried fruits are also processed with food "chemicals" such as sulfur and others, as they will never be soft just like that, they need to be kept that way.
Or dry them to a crisp state and then soak in water for consumption.
And not all vegetables and fruits can maintain such a beautiful color that we see in ready-made stores. There are fruits that cannot be looked at without tears after drying - this is how it changes.
It's still industrial production.

You can see how the color changes in your dryers.

Fruits at home can also be dried until crisp. Only is it necessary to do this?

Raw berries and fruits contain water and sugar (more or less depending on the fruit and its ripeness).
This water evaporates and only fruit sugar remains in a wet state. Therefore, the fruit will be soft and pliable.
Take the chips in your hands - you can feel it and your fingers remain sticky and you lick them, they are sweet.
The more sugar in fruits and berries, the more plastic they will be.

Compare strawberry chips (very dry) and apricot (plastic, sticky) - and remember which ones have more sweetness and sugar.

Chips in this state can be stored well if they are not closed tightly, and stored in bags or paper bags.

Watch the fruit yourself - they themselves will tell you a lot ...

If we want quality fruits and vegetables, we will have to learn to understand the quality of market products.

For example, tomatoes are small, fleshy, and there are very large watery ones (like greenhouse ones in winter) and such tomatoes are just fed with chemicals - a rod that has strength in size, but they don't taste good.
I found the chemical composition:

apricots
Sugar ... 4.54 to 26%
Water ... 70.0 to 92.14%
the more sugar, the more plastic the chips will be and the sweeter.

IN strawberry up to 90% water, little sugar.
Etc...

And then homemade (from the market) vegetables and fruits will be tasty and cleaner than industrially produced ones processed with sulfur, and so on, and so beautiful in appearance.

Enjoy your blanks
As an example, I will give you - you dry the leaves, so they are completely dry and brittle - since there is no sugar in them - only water! The water dried up - and we got a fragile product that breaks down and crumbles into dust.

You don't need such chips - there will be nothing to eat, we will collect a spoon from the table

Here are some tips for drying I found in The Book of Delicious and Healthy Food:

"Plum.
Wash the plums, discard the damaged fruits, lower them for 10-15 seconds in a prepared hot soda solution (50 g of soda per bucket of water). From this, many small, almost imperceptible cracks appear on the skin of the plum, through which moisture will more easily come out of the fruit and drying will be significantly accelerated. Immediately cool the fruits, at the same time rinse them from traces of soda, put them on trays and dry in an oven or dryer in 2-3 steps: first at 40-50 t for 3-4 hours, then stand at room temperature for 4-5 hours, again dry at 50-60 t, hold again and finally dry.
Grapes.
Rinse the grapes in brushes, separate all damaged and decayed berries, dip the brushes in a hot soda solution (the same as for plums) for 3-5 seconds, rinse in water and put on trays. When drying in a cabinet or oven, the temperature must be maintained at 65-75 degrees.
Berries.
Put raspberries, strawberries and blackberries immediately on a sieve and put in an oven or dryer, wash the rest of the berries first. The layer of berries on a sieve should be small 1.5-2 cm. Dry at first at 40-45 degrees, and then you can increase the temperature to 60 degrees. The berries dry quickly, you just need to make sure that they do not burn, and stir them from time to time to avoid sticking. "

Good night all!
I decided to show a little of my dry creations, maybe someone will come in handy, there is still time.
I'll start with the tomato. Dried a lot. But in one of the cans the moth had already started and threw it away. Those jars that were dried with salted, peppercorns and herbs are neat. If I still dry, then salted, safer.

Does it make sense to dry peaches or roll them up? Drying is somehow easier

Drying is easier, but the yield is small - about 100 grams of dried from one fresh one.
And they are eaten faster than you process and dry them
It is unprofitable to dry some peaches, it is better to make a MIX from fruits - and they are eaten in an instant. You will have to put a personal combination lock on the cabinet with banks

Dried and dried are different products and they are prepared and stored in different ways.
You'd better dry the peaches, for this you do not need to process them, just cut them into thin strips and lay them out on a baking sheet, dry until they become chips.
These chips can be safely stored in tissue and paper bags.

Admin Should the peaches be hard for drying?

Any quality, from hard to very soft. Ripe peaches are tastier in chips.
Our peaches are expensive and I'm sorry to translate delicious whole peaches into chips - we'll eat it for good.

KIYANKA, I have a Cardinal dryer. I chose when dryers were a novelty. I drew attention to the fact that less energy was required, a fan from below + hot air. I don’t regret my choice - an excellent dryer. There is no temperature regulation, only mesh trays, that is, a simple model.

Owner Isidri girls, forgive help! I bought a dryer yesterday, studied the instructions and did not understand: should you put the loaded trays on the ALREADY INCLUDED dryer or first install the trays and then turn on the dryer? Somehow I missed this question in a conversation with the manager, but did not find it in the instructions (maybe I overlooked it in a hurry?). Or is it not critical? I want to dry mint and lemon balm tomorrow, so I'm collecting information (so as not to make mistakes right away). Please respond!
Admin
We put the trays, close the lid, then turn on the desired mode - for herbs this is the 1st mode
If there are many trays, I rearrange them while the dryer is running, but I do not disconnect the device from the network.

There will be no error, you can turn it on in the reverse order, but then hot air will drive the grass from the lower trays in different directions
Pinky
: Admin Thanks for the consultation . Along the way, one more question: do I set mode 1 and the dryer will turn itself off after the right time? Or does the process need to be controlled? And during the drying of fruits and berries, the time is set automatically, or is it still necessary to check the adjustment to the desired condition yourself? Do I need to be guided by the table from the instructions or purely visually and at my request? Thank you.
Admin

Turn on the mode and the dryer immediately starts working, drying.

The device does not have a delayed start mode.

You determine the drying time yourself, after the food is ready, the device is not automatic and cannot independently determine the degree of readiness and turn off.

The dryer can be opened and, if necessary, the trays can be swapped for better drying.
You control the whole process yourself, visually and per tooth.

For a while, the instructions can only be guided by reference, and nothing more. The actual time depends on the degree of doneness, the thickness of the slices, the moisture content, the set mode, etc.

: Admin Thanks again It was your photos of dried products that led me to the idea of urgently buying a dryer. I've been reading this Temka every day for a week now - I've been studying and swallowing saliva: I'll start with the grass (of which there is a lot in the garden), I'll wait for the apricot (they also disfigured well this year), and then ... as the vegetables ripen. I bought additionally only nets and marshmallow trays for all trays. But, after reading the whole topic again, I feel that the trays will not be enough for me, it will take a long time to dry. We'll have to buy more (in mine you can max 15). Tempting but expensive. So for now I'll play with what we have.
Thanks for the consultation
Admin

Keep in mind, the most optimal number of pallets - it is better to put 10 pallets !!!
If more, drying takes a long time, the moisture from the fruit is high. You may not dry the chips well, they can get moldy in the bags.
Ten is already a lot!

And periodically I swap the pallets, in different places of the dryer there are different conditions, air, its supply, heat.

Then, by experience, see for yourself.

Girls, and I want to show the results of my dryer. I have Isidri. The other day I dried chopped strawberries, kiwi-slices and bananas-slices (cut into 8 pieces.) I liked everything very much. But the children (adults) rated it like this: kiwi turned out to be the tastiest, then bananas tasted exactly like the store ones, and they liked strawberries less simply because the chips turned out to be thin and lose compared to plump other fruits. Strawberries, probably, I will not dry anymore - it’s too much, but it is eaten instantly. The photo shows what she managed to photograph with her phone. This I tried, what and how it turns out. Of course, we would have our own plantations, it would be possible to dry all the exotic. And it turns out too expensive. Except to pamper the kids sometimes. I also dried mint and lemon balm. It dried perfectly, almost did not change color - only turned pale a little. No photo, I took it to my son - he is a lover of tea with mint.
The dryer does not turn off by itself, three temperature regimes and the smell of plastic is not observed at all. And it doesn't make much noise - you just hear the fan. The marinator works much louder for me. lor-ra777 Hello. When I was buying a dryer, immediately, after reading this Temka advice, I ordered an additional 3 nets and plastic trays for marshmallows. I felt that one complete mesh would not be enough. I dried the strawberries on nets - at the beginning of drying they also stuck, then, when it dried out a little, I peeled them off and turned them over. BUT, I had previously soaked strawberries and kiwi in sugar syrup, since the strawberries were sour. Therefore, it stuck more strongly. The strawberries in the syrup I liked more than the natural ones. I cut it with a special thing for cutting cucumbers, mushrooms, etc. into slices, because you can't cut it with your hands. If I still dry, then I will cut thicker. And kiwi cut just with a knife about 7 mm thick. When they dry out, that's it. And kiwi just dried on trays. After half the time, I also turned it over on the tray.
As for the grid for windows - there was also such an idea, but this is not a food grid. How will it behave when heated?

Girls, owners of Isidri, do not your apricots turn black when dried? dried the first batch (ON 10 trays) - everything was fine. Brownish, dry. And now, for a week now, I've been drying very ripe and juicy apricots (I have "ananaska") and the entire middle turns black during drying. And it dries for a long time - maybe because of the juiciness? I dry it on the 2nd mode with interruptions, on the 1st it gets slightly moldy (?), If I put it on overnight. I have baking sheets with apricots all over the yard, the dryer does not have time (considering that the tree is huge, somewhere around 20 buckets were collected. Jam, compote, juice, marshmallow, drying, and they gave out a lot). The one that is simply dried in the sun also turns black in the middle. Is the temperature high? Of course, it will go for compote / pies, but eating just somehow looks unaesthetic
It makes no sense for me to make dried apricots in sugar syrup - until I make one batch, the rest of the apricot will rot. But the marshmallow turned out great. I got a waste-free production. When I was making the juice, I slightly blend all the extracts (sometimes I added raspberries, red currants). Some boiled, and some made raw. A little moisture and dried much faster. I laid it out in a layer up to 1 cm, so that it did not fall out. And when dry, the thickness remained somewhere 0.3-0.4 mm. Plastic, rolls well. I also wrapped each roll in pitch. paper. I just haven't figured out where to store it. A drying (for now) put it in bottles and closed with wax lids. True, as many bottles and lids as I foresee to dry, I obviously won't have it. Maybe it can just be stored in a linen bag?

Yes, here Yayayayayayaya

I store the drying in paper bags, I do it myself from plain A-4 paper, I fold the edges and fasten them with a stapler more often. Or linen bags.
When it dries well, I put it in glass jars under the lid, or in birch bark jars.

Additional nets and pallets for marshmallow at 125 rubles / piece. Trays ordered (315 rubles / piece), will be in 2-3 weeks. I also bought covers and a vacuum pump "VAKS" there.
Thinking where to start. I'm going to pick the apples.

I got 8 bottles of apricot! First I dried it to a plastic state, poured it into a bottle. Three days later I checked - they were slightly compressed and became soft-moist. I was afraid that they might get moldy and even dried it to a completely solid state. For vacuum packaging, lids are just fine. And we already "tried" the soft ones. And I kept the apples for two hours in syrup and dried for about 7 hours to a dried state. Delight! I think if you sprinkle them with icing sugar when wet, then after drying they will be like glazed ones. My fully grown children appreciated.
Now I have peppers and tomatoes next.
Only this dryer is not enough for me - only 10 trays. We'll have to urgently order more heels (it's a pity, this model won't pull more).
