Cooking method

  • Wash the lingonberries, put them in a colander or sieve, let the water drain. Pour the berries into a glass jar along the shoulders and pour cold boiled water up to the neck. Close with a plastic lid and put in a cool dark place for two weeks. When the water turns an intense pink color, the drink is ready. Top up the space vacated in the jar with fresh water and insist again. Use lingonberries for a drink until they turn white and give all their taste.
  • Lingonberry water turns out to be tart, with a slight sourness - such as fresh berries taste like. You can add honey or sugar to the drink to taste, but it is good in itself, as an excellent thirst quencher. But there are also side effects, which you can read about below!

I remember that at school the teacher of literature could not give an answer, what harm could happen to Onegin from lingonberry water? There was an intrigue, a mystery haunted me for many years. Oh, if I knew at a tender age what kind of prose is contained in these verses ...
And what is lingonberry water? There is a recipe, there is also a solution.
What does a modern housewife do in search of the right recipe? Goes flipping through culinary sites. However, everything turned out to be not so simple ... There were several versions, but none seemed convincing enough to me. Something was still missing ...
And I went to Seliger. In the hope that I will find out from the Ostasha some important secret about a delicious berry, from which mysterious harm can happen. At that time in the Tver province, the season for picking lingonberries and cranberries was in full swing.
And literally in a couple of days I was lucky! In the entrance hall of her friend Ulyana's was a five-liter jar of lingonberries. “I make lingonberry water,” said the hostess. It was then that I found out everything.
I was leaving Ostashkov happy, with mushrooms and berries, taking at the same time a bottle of sweet lingonberry liqueur.

Well, now to the point. What did I find out about lingonberry water?
It turned out that this drink can be prepared in different ways, and the "harm", but rather the benefit, can be different from it.
A decoction of dried lingonberry leaves, which is used in folk medicine, is also lingonberry water, but it seems that this has nothing to do with Pushkin's lines. For:

Lingonberry drinks could be different. Morse, of course (but it doesn't suit us either, since Alexander Sergeevich clearly indicated - water!).
And "water" - it could be syrup from soaked lingonberries with sugar, cloves and cinnamon, which was served with meat along with berries, and which was often diluted with vodka. The result was such a spicy, sweet, light alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink. But, I think, alcohol in our case is also not to blame: well, what harm can a glass or two of such "compote" do to a young man who has eaten well?
And it turns out that there is the simplest recipe that I found out in Ostashkov. A clean berry is poured into a jar up to the shoulders, and poured with cold boiled water. It is covered with a lid and infused in a dark cool place for two weeks. During this time, the water acquires an intense lingonberry color, a tart sour taste of fresh berries, and is the best fit for drinking sweet, fatty, fried, salty ...
And you can fill the berry with water several times until the lingonberry gives off all its color and turns white.

And so - all winter.And now you will not believe it: a little over a month after they dug a hole in me, put pipes there with the prospect of walking around with them for about four months, I was already galloping along the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, with a healed sore and not even remembering what happened to me It was.

As for the lingonberry filled with water .. Prepare the harvest for the winter by pouring the lingonberry with spring water and rolling the lid. Store in a cellar. I bought such a 3-liter jar in Karelia 2 years ago. The berries were poured under the very neck. I drained the water, refilled it.
