Suspended and stretch ceilings For and againstDuring the construction of a house or renovation of an apartment, many disagreements arise on the topic of what the ceiling will be in the room: stretch or suspended. Undoubtedly, each type has a number of advantages and disadvantages during installation and further operation.

Suspended ceilings are available in a wider range of different models. They can be made of gypsum plasterboard (gypsum plasterboard), plastic or aluminum panels called rail.

Suspended and stretch ceilings For and againstPlasterboard suspended ceiling

Plasterboard ceiling is the most common of all types, since it is the cheapest and allows widespread use of new design solutions. Drywall is easy to process, allowing you to give the future ceiling various shapes in the form of straight and wavy contours.

The ceiling can be made multi-level, as well as give a convex or concave rounded shape, slightly moistening the material. Ceiling tiles can be painted or wallpapered, a variety of lamps can be built in. A plasterboard ceiling is considered a kind of moisture regulator, taking away excess moisture and releasing it when the air is dry.

The disadvantages include the rather decent weight of the entire structure, difficulties arise when installing the ceiling frame. When water leaks, drywall is subject to deformation and is only partially restored; after drying, traces of stains remain. Assembly and installation is quite time consuming, in the process there is a lot of construction garbage.

Plastic suspended ceiling

The ceiling made of plastic plates differs from other types in its lightness and simplicity of the frame system. Ceiling tiles, when properly assembled, give an absolutely flat surface, hiding all communications and electrical wiring, as well as seams and cracks in the main ceiling. Absolutely not afraid of moisture ingress, does not require careful maintenance. It is not used as widely as other suspension systems, it is used mainly for office decoration.

The disadvantage is the fragility of plastic plates, the possibility of deformation during long-term storage under the influence of their own weight. Over time, plastic loses its attractiveness and darkens. Plastic plates are quite large in area, which makes it difficult to partially or completely replace communications in the interceiling space.

Slat suspended ceiling

Suspended ceilings made of aluminum or steel panels (strips) can be made in two versions: open and closed. Reiki, length from 2 to 4 meters and width from 30 to 600 mm, allow wide application of their diversity in practice. In the first case, a gap remains between the ceiling panels, which can be closed, if necessary, with special inserts.

The main difference between such ceilings is that they practically do not lose their shape and retain their color, thanks to a special coating. When replacing a damaged area, it is enough to remove several elements without disassembling the entire ceiling. The versatility of slatted ceilings can also be attributed to a number of advantages: the ceilings look great both in residential and office premises.

The high price of products, as well as the complexity of mounting the suspension system are the main disadvantages of rack ceilings. Made of metal, they have a pretty decent weight of the whole structure.

Suspended and stretch ceilings For and againstStretch ceiling

Stretch ceilings can be installed much faster than in the case of suspended ceilings. The design of the ceiling provides for the overlap of a large area with one seamless sheet made of plastic. Such ceilings are much lighter, do not require complexity when installing the frame.

The main difference between a stretch ceiling is its integrity, which allows you to keep warm in the room for a long time. No joints or cracks are visible on the ceiling sheet, which is inevitable when installing suspended ceilings.

The stretch ceiling, due to its features, has a number of disadvantages. Difficulties arise when replacing luminaires in the interceiling space; in the event of a leak, it is rather difficult to remove the accumulated water. With an excess of heat in the room, the ceiling may sag, the color plastic over time, it loses its original appearance. It is quite difficult to install stretch ceilings on your own and will take a lot of time.

All manufacturers of stretch and suspended ceiling systems today offer a wide range of their products, the choice of which many find it difficult to make. There is no consensus in choosing a ceiling, each has its own pros and cons. Only one thing unites them: each of the types can be installed with your own hands if you have a certain skill and the necessary tools.
