A real slipper, or Venus, while many can still find it in the northern regions of the country. It is a North Eurasian continental species. Grows in sparse mixed forests, on the outskirts of birch groves, meadows, among shrubs.
A very rare, almost endangered species is the spotted slipper. It grows in mixed and coniferous forests, in forest glades. It can still be found in the European part of the USSR, in the Far East, in Mongolia and some other places.

Russian naturalist travelers of the last century have especially enthusiastic memories of tropical orchids. Botanists were touched by the unique appearance of orchids (there are about 30,000 species), which caused them many associations. These plants were compared either with hummingbirds, iridescent with all the colors of the rainbow, or with butterflies of breathtaking colors, and some, frightening, ... with spiders. The most impressive "lip" in orchids is the unpaired petal of the lower circle of the flower. To some, it really resembles a lip, to others - a shoe, a shuttle, a bowl, an elongated tongue.
The inexperienced in botany hardly knows that orchids grow in our country. They, of course, are not as defiantly casts as tropical ones, but in their own way they are also cute and adorable. These are shoes. Three of the four types of shoes growing in the USSR are included in the Red Book.
The most intensively destroyed and destroyed by "amateurs" is the large-flowered slipper, which vainly escapes on wet forb meadows and forest lawns in deciduous, less often pine forests. So far, only remoteness from the main habitats of people helps him. Although this plant is perennial, due to the breakage of stems with flowers, plants are not able to accumulate enough nutrients in the rhizomes for a safe overwintering.
The plant usually has single flowers, large (up to 10 cm), juicy bright purple or pink-violet, with a contemptuous "Bourbon" lip. Blooms in June - July.
Unfortunately, it is being destroyed intensively. A beautiful plant is plucked, although it does not last long in bouquets. No one cares about the fact that it blooms only at the eighteenth year of life. Animals do not touch it, as it contains poisonous juice.
It is a perennial plant up to 50 cm tall, with a thick creeping rhizome. Single flower, rarely 2-3, up to 9 cm long. The color of the perianth is unforgettable: a bright golden-yellow lip framed with red-brown leaves.
A real shoe with reddish dots has a pair of stamens, unlike most other species, which have only one.
The flower of the plant is single and relatively small in size - up to 4.5 cm. The perianth is multi-colored, the lip and other leaves are white, with large merging purple-pink spots; the lowest leaf is greenish. Blooms in May - June.
