 The insulation process begins with glazing the balcony. Having installed a warm double-glazed window, you will immediately understand that it is not only visually beautiful, but also comfortable and warm.
It is possible to glaze balconies the old fashioned way, using glass and wooden frames, but it is best to invest in PVC with a three to five-chamber profile and get a really good result.
Before proceeding with the main work on the insulation of a balcony or loggia, you need to clearly realize that from all sides it will slightly decrease in size by about 10 cm.
Insulation of the ceiling and walls
A layer of heat-insulating material is laid on the walls of the loggia, floor and ceiling. It is best to use extruded polystyrene foam or other types of foam as such insulation.
It does not matter what you planned to decorate the balcony with, panels or clapboard, you need to sew wooden bars around the entire perimeter of the balcony at a distance of 30-40 cm from each other. All cavities are again sealed with thermal material, and on top, over the entire area of the insulation, a special foil is lined, which is needed so that condensation does not accumulate from temperature drops on the surface and inside the insulation.
Floor insulation
Without floor insulation, condensation will form on the walls and windows due to the combination of cold and warm air, which, drying out and forming again, will lead to the fact that the surfaces will eventually become covered with mold, and as a result, there will be no benefit from the insulated balcony, i.e. to. cold air will still blow from the floor.
The simplest, but at the same time, costly way is to install a warm floor. You should not save on materials and lay out the heating system on the "bare" concrete floor of the balcony. Without thermal insulation, you will warm not only your heels with heat (and half as much as you could), but also the ceiling of your neighbors below, who, in the end, are unlikely to like your idea.
So, the heating elements are mounted on a concrete fill, and tiles, parquet or any other coating are laid on top. A floor heating temperature regulator is installed on the wall.
There is another version of insulation: a layer of insulation is placed on horizontally laid logs, and shock-resistant wooden plates are placed on the insulation. The final layer - linoleum, laminate or parquet.
Wall covering
There are two options for wall cladding - with wood or plastic panels. Here everyone chooses for himself according to his means and preferences. But these types of panels have their own advantages and disadvantages.
Of course, wood panels look solid, and they are usually more expensive. But if you chose a tree, then you should not skimp on material. If the wood is poorly dried, covered with low-quality varnish, or mistakes were made during installation, then the panels will have to be changed again after 2-3 years. It is not necessary to install wooden cladding in houses with high humidity levels, because after a few rainy seasons, the wood will begin to dry out and rot.
For such houses, plastic is more suitable. The color range of plastic panels is very rich, and every buyer will definitely find something for himself. Plastic panels are easy to install, they adhere better to each other, and are very resistant to moisture. But such panels are not very suitable for balconies located on the sunny side of the house. The situation can be improved by installing fairly dense fabric blinds or curtains on the balcony frames.
Heating
When all the decoration of the balcony is completed, you can think about heating the balcony.
It is strictly forbidden to take out the general heating batteries to the balcony. Therefore, it is better to purchase an oil radiator, but it is not safe to just lead the wire out through the balcony door or window.Better to run the wire through a specially drilled hole in the doorway.
A very relevant and practical option for balconies on the leeward side of the house is a heat-saving film that is glued to the window and, reflecting sunlight, retains the heat inside the room.
