 Nero loved to contemplate the battles of gladiators through a large crystal of emerald. The tired eyes of the great power-lover were pleased with the greenish twilight in which the crystal immersed everything around - the sparkling swords of doomed slaves, the spectators' faces distorted by the excitement. Sunglasses, of course, were not in his time. Glasses as a tool for correcting vision were invented by Italians as early as 1285. But it was only at the end of the 18th century that Chinese craftsmen figured out to equip two round lenses made of dark topaz with a silver connecting bridge and earhooks made of the same material to save the eyes from bright light.
In Europe, goggles appeared at the end of the 19th century thanks to the ingenuity of the Frenchman Sekkinel, who was passionate about mountain climbing. In 1882, he was one of the first to manufacture a device to protect eyes from the mountain sun, which causes retinal burns and blindness, and at the same time from strong winds due to a special frame that fits tightly to the face. The French company "Cebe", having appreciated the invention of Sekkinel, by the beginning of the 20th century had launched the production of glasses - "canned food", which were gladly bought not only by conquerors of mountain peaks, but also by motorists, and a little later by aviators. With the advent of new materials, the sun-protection optics industry has grown rapidly.
Plastic, technologically advanced and easy to process, began to displace glass, and now about 80% of the world's sunglasses for lenses are made from it. However, even relatively fragile glass lenses still have many fans due to their excellent optical properties and the ability to completely block ultraviolet radiation harmful to vision. Every year, at the spring exhibition in Milan, the world's largest manufacturers demonstrate their latest achievements in the field of sun-protection optics. And there is something to show them. Fans of extreme sports are well aware of the products of the American companies Okley and Cpy, as well as the French company Cebe. But today, sports glasses are worn not only by athletes, but also by everyone who wants to look stylish. Children - because they want to be like adults, and glasses for toddlers delight with multi-colored frames and a cute "toy" design. And yet the main thing for all sunglasses, and even more so for children, is not the form, but the content, that is, high-quality lenses that really protect the eyes from the sun, wind and dust, and a light, durable frame made of non-allergenic material.
For men of all ages, sunglasses are not just about style or sun protection. Hidden behind impenetrable lenses, you can look at oncoming ladies with impunity - and the higher the ambient temperature, the more interesting you can see. Sunglasses are amazing for shaved heads or just bald men. And dark glasses perfectly hide the traces of night vigils and excessive libations, and if your appearance at the service in dark glasses in winter, spring or autumn inevitably arouses the suspicion of the leadership, then in the summer such a masquerade will not surprise anyone. Women's eyes, hidden behind dark glasses, feel comfortable. First, UV rays do not harm your eyesight. Secondly, there is no need to squint, which means that extra wrinkles will not appear this summer. Thirdly, no one will notice the already existing "crow's feet", as well as bags, dark circles and other unpleasant defects. And, finally, you don't need to paint your eyes - let them take a break from mascara and shadows at least in summer. Sunglasses are worn not only on the nose, but also on the forehead. Fans of traditions can buy glasses with photochromic lenses - "chameleons", which became popular in the 70s, and are still produced by many world famous manufacturers. Nowadays, sunglasses and sports glasses are made by everyone: Europe, the United States, China - just for some reason not Russia. The Soviet "spectacle" monopolist - the Izyum factory, which once produced 20 million frames a year, is now located in Ukraine. However, experts warn: cheap glasses often do not fulfill their main purpose. By trapping the rays of the visible spectrum, they transmit harmful ultraviolet light. Moreover, the insidiousness of cheap glasses also lies in the fact that the pupils, trusting in the deceptive twilight, expand, passing an increased dose of UV radiation to the retina. In addition, cheap glasses distort the image. This can cause eye fatigue, blurred perception of the surrounding world and headaches. - yellow lenses brighten greens, yellows and reds, create the appearance of a sunny day and are especially suitable for dark environments.
