Bomann WA 5018 waffle maker reviewHaving tried a waffle iron for Belgian soft waffles, I decided to compare it with waffle makers for thin waffles. Although, I would still call the Bomann WA 5018 waffle iron a waffle iron for medium (in thickness) waffles.

If I had a choice - only one waffle iron, and at the same time before that there would not have been any, i.e. I would have to choose from the picture, then I would choose the Belgian waffles. Because they are beautiful, delicious, reminiscent of a vacation in Europe. A thin or medium kind of like ordinary. And choosing this one waffle maker, I would never know how delicious the other waffles are.

It's not that some are worse, but some are better. They are just completely different! But let's start in order.

So, the waffle maker Bomann WA 5018.

On the wide sides there are the same drawings and inscriptions in different languages.

On the narrow sides there is more detailed information in different languages, including Russian.

Private messages

The waffle iron itself is packed in a bag and protected by foam.

Private messages

The foam is tightly fitted, so it is difficult to get it.
But that's good. The box also contains instructions, of course.

Private messages

There is a protective material between the surfaces.
The wire is also not long - 70cm.

Private messages

The surfaces are held together by an axle and a spring. And the top is a little wobbly.
At first I thought that maybe the axis had shifted, I even shone a flashlight there to see. But later, when I began to bake, I realized that everything was done on purpose, everything was thought out.

The fact is that when you pour the dough, the lid rises slightly to completely cover the dough, for this there is also a small backlash. Without it, the opposite edge would be poorly pressed and baked.

The rubberized feet raise the waffle iron.
I liked it, the table surface does not heat up.

Private messages

This waffle iron also knows how to stand upright and take up little space, so it is more convenient to store.

Below is a standard sticker for any technique with data on a specific model.

And fan holes.

Instructions in different languages, in Russian only 5 pages.
Same recipe with 5 yolks as Clatronic.
It is strange that such an uninteresting recipe is offered. The only negative that I found.

Above is a thermostat and two bulbs.
The red one lights up when you plug it in. Green indicates heating is in progress. Having reached the set temperature, the green light goes out, and as soon as the temperature changes, it will light up again, indicating that heating is in progress.

Before using the waffle iron for the first time, you need to plug it in, grease the surface with oil, set it to the maximum and leave for 10 minutes. There may be a foreign smell and this is normal. Then turn it off, let it cool, wipe the surface, grease it again - and you can bake. But, for safety reasons, the manufacturer does not recommend eating the first wafer - there may be residues of industrial lubricant on it.

Those. exactly the same principle as the Clatronic WA 3606 waffle maker
I described this in detail in first review

And now the waffle iron is ready to use, I was so eager to bake that I forgot to take a picture of how I poured the dough for the first waffle. And when I remembered, she was already baking, there was a pleasant aroma and steam rose (can you see the steam in the photo?)

And here is the first waffle.
Mmm, delicious! Crunchy!
I couldn't roll it into a tube, but these are not thin waffles either. But it can be beautifully cut into hearts. But I like it all around.

And I photographed the second portion
I definitely liked pouring the dough better with this waffle iron.

Firstly, it is enough to pour into the middle, and after closing the lid, the dough will be distributed by itself. Secondly, if it is underfilled, there will not be a perfect flower of hearts, but if it is overflowed, then the dough will not pour out of the waffle iron, but gather in a groove around the flower.

Private messages

You see, this is what the overflow looks like.
If I trained Belgian waffles and selected the optimal amount, then I did not worry about it at all.

Private messages

Bakes equally well on both sides.
Here's the downside

Private messages

Very quickly, I baked a small stack of waffles.
Each waffle took about 4 minutes.

And now I would like to share my impression of two waffle irons at once.

This is how two waffle makers look side by side - Bomann WA 5018 and Clatronic WA 3606

I tested them almost at the same time, and used the same recipe, specifically to compare tastes.

Form matters!
From the same dough, completely different waffles turned out.
In structure, in taste, in mouthfeel.

I have always wondered how Italians feel about pasta.
Soviet cookery distinguished literally into several types: long pasta, short pasta, curly pasta.

Italians distinguish all 50 shades. gray paste.
They may say: "Today I don't want Fusilli (spirals), but I want Farfalla (bow-tie)." Well, well, this is understandable, the shape is different, it is combined with sauces in different ways and is felt in the mouth.

But how they distinguish between when Tagliatelle (5mm wide flat thin noodles) and when Fettuccine (7mm wide thin flat noodles) is better is a mystery to me. I don't feel this 2mm difference. From one dough, they simply cut the same length and thickness, only the width differs by 2mm.

And so it was until my friend's Italian husband cooked Tagliatella and Fettuccine at the same time. I was amazed! These are really different dishes!

That's about the same feeling I experienced when I tried different waffles from the same dough, made with different waffle makers. Although, the differences between them, in my opinion, are still greater than those of pasta.

Belgian waffles, although crispy, are still soft, closer to biscuit. And the hearts are crisper. Especially when they cool down.

I can't choose which one is better. They are for different moods, different sauces.
Therefore, I cannot recommend any one. Both are good.

Well, I realized that I couldn't do with one or two "baked goods".
Of course, "baked goods" are not a necessary gadget, but they are very pleasant, and therefore I will still get them. I even already know what collection I want to collect.
