 In order for the personal plot to be beautiful, convenient for processing and movement, it is necessary to carry out measures for its improvement. One of the types of landscaping is the arrangement of paths and various sites by laying paving stones on them. Such construction work can be done independently without the help of professional builders. Let's analyze the process of self-laying paving slabs in more detail.
Markup. Before starting the main work on laying out paths and paving sites, it is necessary to mark. To do this, you need to outline a diagram of directions and the width of the paths, taking into account the places of water drain from the roof, the slope of the terrain and other individual characteristics of your site. At the corners of the boundaries of long sections for laying, you need to drive in stakes and pull a cord between them. The markup is ready.
Preparatory work. It is necessary to remove a layer of fertile soil from the marked areas to a depth of about 300 - 350 mm. A curb should be installed along the edges of the resulting trench, which will give the track rigidity from the sides. The curb is placed on a concrete pad (a mixture of cement and sand in a ratio of 1: 4). We begin to build a foundation for paving stones. We ram the soil at the bottom of the trench using a vibrating table or manually. If there is clay at the bottom, then we put a layer of geotextile on it, if the soil is sandy, then this is not necessary.
We continue to prepare the base. We pour a layer of sand 100 mm thick, if there is a slope, then the layer will be larger in places where the slope is aligned. We ram the sand. It is imperative to put a layer of geotextile on it so that the next layer of crushed stone with sand, 150 mm thick, does not then “drown” in the sand. Geotextiles, in addition, will protect the paving stone from destruction by germinating plant roots. A layer of crushed stone with sand is also compacted.
This should result in a very hard and fairly flat surface. You can already lay out paving stones on it.
Laying tiles - paving stones. We begin to lay the paving stones, leveling its horizontal along the stretched cord. For large laying areas, the cord must be pulled over several rows. Leave gaps of at least 2 mm between the tiles, which then need to be filled with fine sifted sand using the sweeping method.
We check the laying plane according to the "rule". This is a flat lath 2 m long. It is applied from above to the laid paving stones and the gaps between the tile and the lath are checked; they should not be more than 5 mm. In case of protrusion, the tile is tapped with a rubberized or polyurethane hammer, and if it fails, sand is added under it. Sometimes the gaps between the paving stones are filled not with sand, but with a mixture of sand and cement, but you need to understand that in this case, the drainage will occur not due to drainage, but due to a natural slope, and if there is none, then puddles will form on the sidewalk or site ...
A mixture of sand and cement to fill the gaps between tiles is used when paving stones are laid on a concrete base.
